One of the most popular sports in the world to bet on is football, and while it could be done at the college or NFL level, it is almost always exciting watching your team compete on the gridiron for 60 minutes. Unlike hockey or baseball, football’s popularity as a sport makes their seemingly endless ways to bet on it. Of course, the most simply way to bet on football is the straight bet, which is where you can take a hit with an added risk to bet a team on the money line, or bet the spread, which means that a team will have to win or stay within a specified amount of points. For example, if the spread for a game between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills has the former favored by 8 according to the pay head bookies, then in order to bet the Patriots on the spread, they would have to win by at least nine to come through. Anything less than that number would result in a loss, except if they won by eight, then they would be considered a push and the bet would be ruled off.

There is also the traditional approach to sports betting on the totals, which is determining if the two teams can combine to score more points than the total number listed for the game. If the Patriots and Bills game has a total number of 54, then you can bet whether they will combine to score more or less points than 54. Football has gives the option of betting on a specific half, or even quarter, in addition to the whole 60 minutes. Parlays, teasers, and props are all other ways of betting on football, but those are somewhat more complicated and better to learn in time.
