sports-and-racebook3Exacta betting is one of the biggest appeals to placing a wager at the horse race track. Known as the most popular exotic horse betting wager, exactas come in three different forms. There is the straight exacta, exacta box and exacta wheel. Here is a look at how each exacta bet works.

Straight Exacta Betting – Also known as a perfecta, the straight exacta simply allows you to pick the first and second place horses in that specific order. For instance, if you bet on the number two horse and the number three horse to finish first and second, they have to finish that way. Similar to a parlay, in order to win your bet, the two and three have to finish in first and second. If the two finishes first and the four finishes second, then you would lose your bet.

Exacta Box – Essentially you will be betting two different combinations of horses finishing first and second. Using the example from the straight exacta, this would mean, that in an exacta box you are betting two dollars for the two horse to come in first and the three to finish second. While also picking the reverse to occur, with the three coming first and the two coming second. The same rule of any other horse finishing first or second along with one of your horses, applies to making the bet a loser.

Exacta Wheel – The exacta wheel is the most compromising of the exacta options. In essence you are simply picking one horse to win the race outright, while choosing up to three other horses to come in second. An example of this, appears as follows, a two dollar exacta wheel would cost six dollars with the two followed by one of the three four or five horses.
