First Dude Will Run In Belmont

It will be a case for steady improvement for at least one horse entering the upcoming online betting Belmont Stakes, as First Dude looks to make it three straight Triple Crown races with demonstrated improvement two weeks from now. After finishing third in the Kentucky Derby at the opening of the month, First Dude moved up a spot at the finish by placing second at the Preakness Stakes. Now trainer Dale Romans is hoping his horse can finally make it to the top at the Belmont Stakes.
First Dude will be one of the horse betting favorites for the Belmont, especially considering that both of the winners from the first two legs of the Triple Crown will not run. Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver struggled at the Preakness, and will not run. Meanwhile, after struggling at Churchill Downs after drawing the inside rail position under harsh conditions, Lookin At Lucky bounced back with a win at the Preakness, but also will not run at the Belmont Stakes.
It will be interesting to see how First Dude is able to respond to the difference in race type between the first two legs of the Triple Crown, and the final one. The Belmont is the longest of the three races, and relative success at the shorter races may not necessarily translate.
First Dude returned to Churchill Downs on the weekend, but Romans noted he will likely move to Belmont Park by the end of this week.
